Chapter 99

Song Linchuan clearly remembered the three questions Pei Kuang had asked him over the phone that day.

- What would your first reaction be if you saw your sister/aunt being confessed to by a guy?

- What if it was a girl you liked that was being confessed to?

- What do you think of me as a person?

At first, Song didn't think much about connecting these questions, but now, even someone as dense as Song understood what they implied.

If he had guessed correctly, the first two questions were to help this jerk sort out his feelings for his aunt.

As for the third question, what had he answered at the time?

That's right, back then Pei had just been slandered by his mother, and he had tried to comfort him by saying only praiseworthy things about him!!

"Let me put it this way, people I truly respect from the bottom of my heart are rare in this world, but you, Pei Kuang, are one of them."

"You've got the looks, the capability, good character, and decent temper..."

So it turned out he had given this jerk the courage to pursue his aunt!

Thinking of this, Song Linchuan felt awful, his face alternating between green and white.

After a long pause, Song suddenly looked up at Pei with determination in his eyes: "I've made up my mind, I'll take your advice."

Pei was stunned for a moment, what advice?

Song didn't even give him a chance to react before striding over.

He grabbed Pei by the collar with one hand and pulled him close, while swinging with full force at his abdomen with the other.

Pei let out a muffled grunt as pain instantly spread through his body and beads of sweat appeared on his forehead.

Damn! Song really held nothing back with that punch.

Before Pei could recover, Song's fist swung at him again, his feet not idle either.

Pei didn't fight back at all, only occasionally raising his hands on instinct to block when Song lost control and aimed at his face.

The fight ended with both sprawled on the floor, Pei from the beating and Song because he was exhausted from doling it out before lying down himself.

The two lay side by side staring at the ceiling in silence for a good while.

Pei turned his body and said softly, "Linchuan, I'm serious."

Song glared at him irritably, "No kidding, if you weren't serious, you wouldn't still be alive and talking right now after the beating I gave you."

He had to admit, ever since learning Pei had seduced his aunt away, aside from anger, Song had never doubted Pei's motives.

This showed Song's confidence in Pei's character.

Perhaps letting off steam helped settle his rage. Right now, Song was much calmer.

"What were you thinking that day?" Lying on his back staring at the ceiling, he asked.

Pei frowned, "Which day?"

Song glared at him impatiently, "What other day could it be?"

"The day you realized you harbored indecent thoughts about my aunt, what exactly were you thinking?" Just thinking he had egged this jerk on made his blood boil.

Understanding now, Pei said, "What was I thinking...if I'm being honest, I was actually quite insecure."

Song was stunned, as if he'd heard something unbelievable. "What?"

When had this jerk ever been insecure the whole time they'd known each other?

Pei gave a light laugh, "I felt I was unworthy."

Song turned his head to look at the man beside him, lost in thought as he said, "You really are unworthy of my aunt."

Pei paused, his gaze downcast as if pondering something.

Song arched a brow and continued lightly, "But to me, no one in this world can match up to my aunt."

Shooting Pei a sidelong glance, he added plainy, "You, while not fully deserving, at least barely pass."

Pei's mouth quirked up as he chuckled, "Thanks bro, passing is good enough."

Just passing showed Song wouldn't oppose them, which was high praise for Pei.

And that was enough for him.

Song scoffed, "Don't let it go to your head, my assessment of you is based on my aunt liking you."

"The day she stops liking you, I'm taking it back."

Pei's mouth curved up slightly, "I know."

He patted Song on the shoulder with a laugh, "Don't worry, I'll keep working hard to live up to your expectations."

Annoyed, Song shoved his hand away, "Piss off!"

What expectations did he have for this jerk?

After lying a while longer, the two finally got up from the floor.

As the one who beat people up, Song was fine after the initial tiredness and got up nimbly.

Pei was a different story. After taking a heavy beating, his whole body now ached. Getting up aggravated the pain in his abdomen and he sucked in a sharp breath.

With a hiss, he looked at Song with a pained smile, "You really didn't hold back."

Song eyed him coolly, "Be content, apart from the first few hits, I held back my strength. Otherwise you wouldn't be getting up right now."

Pei knew he wasn't exaggerating. With Song's years of boxing experience, going all out would have left Pei in much worse shape.

But right now he had no time to quibble with Song. The commotion they'd caused was not small. The sofa was toppled over, coffee table kicked aside, things strewn all over the floor.

They had to tidy up quickly. If the young lady suddenly came up, she'd definitely be frightened.

One hand bracing his stomach, Pei started cleaning up with the other. Understanding his intent, Song wordlessly joined in.

Just as they'd nearly restored the place to order, Song's phone rang suddenly.

It was Song Anan. He picked up absently.

"Hello auntie, what, my parents are here...Okay, don't panic, stay home and wait, I'm coming to get you. What? You're downstairs at Pei's place..."

Song Zhenhui and Zhao Ya had arrived and were on their way after getting off the plane.

No need to guess, they must be here because of Song Anan and Pei.

After quickly tidying up, Pei and Song went downstairs.

As soon as they exited the building, they saw Song Anan sitting on a bench nearby. Song instinctively glanced at Pei, who immediately understood and said helplessly, "Don't worry, I won't say anything no matter what."

Song gave him a 'you'd better' look.

Seeing them come out, Song Anan hurried over from the bench looking worried.

She inspected Pei first to make sure he was unharmed.

Pei smiled and shook his head to indicate he was fine and not to worry.

Song witnessed their interaction and gave a cold snort before asking, "Auntie, what did my parents say and where are they now?"

Coming back to herself, Song Anan quickly replied, "Sister-in-law called me to say they'll arrive soon and shared their real-time location. See?"

She held out her phone to show him.

Song glanced at it and nodded, "Okay, their location is close. Let's go to the gate to meet them since they can't get in."

Naturally, Song Anan had no objections. She had been watching their location and if they went now, they'd likely meet them at the gate.

But just then, Pei suddenly spoke up, "You two go back first, I won't be joining for now."

Song frowned at him puzzled, what did he mean?

Abandoning his aunt to face this alone, was he a turtle retreating into his shell?!

Where was his backbone as a man?

Seeing his misunderstanding, Pei quickly explained, "Your parents rushed over worried, your family should talk at this time. My presence might be inappropriate. I'll come pay my respects tomorrow."

"Of course, if uncle and aunt wish to see me, I'm available anytime."

Song wasn't stupid and immediately grasped Pei's intent.

He had to admit, this jerk had good judgement when dealing with people.

With Song Anan in tow, Song rushed to the gate to meet his parents.

Ten minutes later, the Song family gathered in Song's living room.

Song Zhenhui and Zhao Ya sat on the sofa with stern expressions, while Song Linchuan and Song An'an sat on the other side.

Upholding the Song family's policy of "leniency for those who confess," Song An'an truthfully confessed her relationship with Pei Kuang.

Upon hearing that the two had been together for so long, Song Zhenhui assumed a stern, parental air and slammed the table, shouting, "Hiding a relationship from your family for so long is simply outrageous!" Song An'an was so startled that her neck involuntarily shrank back.

Seeing his father's reaction, Song Linchuan instantly became unhappy.

He reached out and pulled Song An'an behind him protectively, yelling at Song Zhenhui, "Dad, what are you doing? It's modern times, people date freely now. Why are you getting angry at my aunt?"

Song An'an quickly tugged at Song Linchuan's shirt and whispered, "Linchuan, don't talk back to your brother."

She was worried it would implicate her.

In the Song family, whether towards Song Linchuan or Song An'an, Song Zhenhui always played the role of the "strict father."

Having grown up fearing her elder brother more than her own father, Song An'an shrunk back instinctively, although he had never really scolded her.

While Song Linchuan's words alone might have been fine, talking back completely put him in Song Zhenhui's crosshairs.

Originally reluctant to scold Song An'an, now Song Zhenhui immediately turned his anger on Song Linchuan: "You still have the nerve to speak? If you hadn't brought the wolf into our home, would your aunt have been led astray? I haven't even settled scores with you yet, and you dare make a fuss here!"

Song Linchuan's momentum instantly diminished. "You... you can't put it like that. My aunt was bound to date eventually, you can't stop her!"

Hearing this made Song Zhenhui even angrier. He coldly laughed, "Even if I can't stop her, at least I wouldn't have delivered your aunt to another man with my own hands."

Song Linchuan: "......"

He really was his father - he knew how to stab him where it hurt!!
